Dozens gathered in front of the 911 Memorial Fountain in Journal Square Friday night, calling for peace and justice in the Philippines.

This week deadly clashes broke out between government troops in the Philippines and Islamic State terrorists in Mindanao. In response, Philippines’ president declared a 60-day martial law in the south.

Those taking part in the vigil also expressed the need for vigilance against the imposition of this martial law, following reports that it could be expanded throughout the country.
