Wet weather makes a mess of travelers’ schedules

Hundreds of flights canceled in region’s nor’easter

NEWARK — American Airlines canceled nearly 900 flights on Friday at Newark, JFK, and LaGuardia airports. Wet weather due to the area’s nor’easter made the roads a mess outside, and inside, flight cancellations made a mess of people’s travel schedules. Newark, especially, was an absolute ghost town.

Tom Coco, a resident of Atlanta, made a trip to New Jersey for business. But now that his flight has been canceled, he’s left with very few options if he wants to go home at all this weekend.

“Right now, my options are to fly standby, possibly on Sunday. And alternatively, what I may do is drive to Pennsylvania and try to catch a flight out of Allentown on Sunday. So, my work has been extended,” he said.

But his situation is far from the worst traveler scenario.
